Ruth Esther Trowbridge, 97, of Commiskey, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Autumn Trace in North Vernon.
Born August 19, 1924, in Nebraska (Jennings County), the daughter of Charles Edmond and Inez (Arbuckle) Everhart. She married Charles “Jewell” Trowbridge on October 26, 1945, in Vernon; he preceded her in death on September 13, 1990.
Ruth retired from Reliance Electric in Madison and had previously worked in the dietary department for the former Madison State Hospital. She was a member Ebenezer Church, Graham Presbyterian Missionary Society, and a 36-year member of North Vernon Chapter #183 Order of the Eastern Star. Ruth enjoyed mowing the yard, reading, camping, fishing, playing cards and board games. She also enjoyed I.U. Basketball.
Survivors include her sons, Harold Jean (Pauline) Trowbridge and Donald Wayne Trowbridge, both of Commiskey; and Jack (Marilyn) Hunt of Wentzville, Missouri; daughters, Stella Herr of North Vernon and Brenda Mattingly of San Jacinto; grandchildren, Timothy Todd Trowbridge, Thomas Browning and Tracey Dilk, all of North Vernon, Lori (Andy) Krug, of Wentzville, Missouri, Cyndie (Paul) Lewis, of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, Robyn (Robert) Cryts, of Winfield, Missouri, Marie (Jerry) Shepherd and Amanda (Thomas) Vogel, both of Hayden, Don (Darla) Trowbridge Jr., of Commiskey, Sandra (Tim) Maschino of San Jacinto and Stacey (Nicole) Alaniz of Texas; eighteen great-grandchildren; and twelve great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by parents, her husband, son, Thomas Allen Trowbridge, brothers, Howard, Carl, James Edward, Charles Raymond, Bernard Raymond, and Paul Everhart; sisters, Reba Wilkerson, Dorothy Everhart, Helen Louise Coons, Elsie Goins, Hazel Everhart, Julia LaVerne Sipe, Florence Roseabell Cardinal, and Agnes Bonnset Oliver.
A funeral service for Ruth will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel and Cremation Service in North Vernon with her daughter Brenda Mattingly officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Dupont Cemetery in Dupont.
