Sammie Whicker

Sammie Whicker, 76, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:55 a.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born February 15, 1945, in Manchester, Clay County, Kentucky, he was the son of Robert Eugene and Ida May (House) Whicker. He married Brenda Denton on September 30, 1983, in Gallatin, Tennessee; she survives.

Sammie worked as a machinist for Bal-Dor Electric in Columbus for 21 years before retiring in 2009 and worked for Whickers Body Shop in Butlerville. He enjoyed planting trees, gardening, working on cars and riding motorcycles.

Surviving with his wife, Brenda are his sons, Mark (Melissa) Whicker and Sammie G. (Karon) Whicker, both of North Vernon and Jeff (Julie) Risley of Paducah, Kentucky; daughter, Amanda Risley of North Vernon;  brother, Earl (Christine) Whicker of Taylorsville; sisters, Dorothy Napier and Aline Garrett, both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Heather (Michael) Rayburn, Logan Whicker, Jarod Whicker, Samantha Whicker, and Taylor Anderson, all of North Vernon, Hannah Rudd of Las Vegas, Nevada, Camryn Risley, Kendall Risley and Max Risley, all of Paducah, Kentucky and great-grandchildren, Grayson Reagan and Delaney M. Rayburn, both of North Vernon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dorsey Whicker Sr., and sister, Tressa Reed.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 20, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Sammie to the American Cancer Society.
