Sharon Louise Wilkerson

Sharon Louise Wilkerson, 77, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:26 a.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 16, 1943, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Mary Lois (Milholland) Wilkerson and the late Kenneth P. Wilkerson.

Sharon was a 1961 graduate of Seymour High School and a graduate of Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. She served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corp from 1967 - 1970. Sharon worked as a Registered Nurse for 37 years retiring from nursing in Maryland. She was a member of Scipio United Methodist Church in Scipio and enjoyed playing cards, being outdoors, fishing, flowers, and spending time with family especially around the holidays.  

She is survived by her mother, Mary Lois Wilkerson of Seymour; best friend and caregiver, Judy Strait of North Vernon; sister, Beverly Vogel of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her father and sister, Kimberly Webber.

A funeral service for Sharon will be conducted at 6:00 p.m.  on Friday, October 2, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Ron Marcoux officiating and military rites will be performed by Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W.  Visitation will be on from 4:00 p.m.  until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will be at a later date in the Vernon Cemetery.
