Shirley Jonetta (Lewis) Lawson, 81, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Born January 21, 1940, in Prairie County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Herbert and May (Campbell) Lewis. She married Joseph “Joe” Lawson on April 19, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio; he survives.
Shirley worked as an inspector for AM General in Indianapolis and was a member of Kingdom Hall-Jehovah’s Witness in North Vernon. She enjoyed writing poems and songs and studying the Bible.
Surviving with her husband, Joe, are her sons, Dennis Lawson and Paul Lawson, both of Las Vegas, Nevada, Richard “Rick” Lawson of Indianapolis, and Joe Lawson Jr. of North Vernon; daughters, Joyce Thompson of Indianapolis and Shirley Ann “Sam” Aumann of North Vernon; brothers, Jim Lewis of Phoenix, Arizona and Wally Lewis of Kentucky; sister, Ruby Couch of Dayton, Ohio; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Debra Thompson; son-in-law, Thomas Aumann Jr. and several brothers and sisters.
In keeping with her family’s wishes, cremation is planned and no services are to be held at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.
