Sidney Gabbard Jr. Obituary

Sidney Gabbard Jr. 90, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:17 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

Born January 18, 1931, in Bonnyman, Kentucky, he was the son of Sid and Carrie Jane (Combs) Gabbard. He married Reba Colwell on November 12, 1952, in Hazard, Kentucky; she survives.

Sidney served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a forklift driver for Arvin’s in Columbus for 35 years. He enjoyed working on cars, building things, taking drives in the country, visiting Gatlinburg, listening to Blue Grass and County Music. Sidney loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving with his wife, Reba Gabbard, are his children, Sidney (Sherry Rae) Gabbard Jr. of Seymour, John (Leslie) Gabbard of North Vernon; Patricia (Gary) Miller and Carrie (John) Willis, both of North Vernon and Sharon (Terry) Chavis of Columbus; sisters, Marie (Jim) Howell of Cincinnati, Ohio and Henrietta June (Raymond) Franks of North Vernon; grandchildren, Sara (Brad) Brockman, Debbie (James) Carmichael, Diana (Lee) Murphy, Becky Shelton Colwell, Alexa (Nick) Meadows, Collin Willis, Parker (Brittani) Willis, Shauna (Tom) Mahoney, Melody Bowling, David (Laura) Gabbard, Rachel (Mick) Ault, Chris Gabbard, Jessica Gabbard, Heather Uebel, Heather (Adam) Burrow, Eryn Gabbard, Ali Gabbard, Sean (Shelby) Gabbard, Kyle Gabbard; great-grandchildren, Desiree Drake, Gabriella Mahoney, Katelynn Mahoney, Gabriel Bowling, Taylor Bowling, Molly Brockman, John Brockman, Josiah Carmichael, Bella Carmichael, Zion Carmichael, Rayna Murphy, Pierson Murphy, Adyrah Murphy, Haylee Gullion, Braxton Gullion, Colson Gabbard, and Lawson Gabbard, Analise Gabbard, Alijah Gabbard, Reagan Dean Meadows, and Chance Gabbard; great-great-grandchildren, Sydney Immenhort and Zachary Drake.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Larry (Ginny-Ames) Gabbard, and siblings, James Herbert, Earl, Donnie, Elijah, and David Gabbard, Ruby Gabbard, Betty Lanham, Della Gabbard and Georgia Day.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. John Willis and Rev. James Carmichael officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, September 13, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.

Memorials may be made in honor of Sidney through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
