Stuart Allan James, 87, of Monticello, Kentucky, passed away at 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at his home.
Born November 19, 1937, in Jennings County, he was the son of the late Howard Henry “Hank” and Naomi Georgia (Cadby) James. He married Alice (Dennis) Upchurch-James on April 7, 2014, in Monticello, Kentucky; she survives.
Stuart graduated from North Vernon High School in 1955 and served in the U.S. Army in 1962. He worked for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 46 years and enjoyed mowing the grass and driving his truck.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Upchurch-James; daughters, Jackie James and Monica (Tony) Slater; stepsons, Jonathan Upchurch, Justin Upchurch, Jeremiah Upchurch, and Jared Upchurch, Eddie Upchurch, Dan Upchurch and Rick Upchurch; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis James.
A graveside service for Stuart will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with Rev. Jeremiah Upchurch officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until the start of the service in the cemetery. Military honors will be given by the members of Matt Hester VFW Post #2021 of North Vernon.
