Thomas Lynn Updike, 63, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:43 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born August 7, 1961, in Greensburg, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary Jo (O’Neal) Updike. He married Tina M. McCammon on June 25, 1983, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in North Vernon; she survives.
Thomas was a 1979 graduate of Jennings County High School and worked as a forklift operator for Webster West Packaging in North Vernon for ten years. He had previously worked in maintenance for Montrow Tool for several years, owned a lawn care business, and had worked five years for the former Regal Rugs in North Vernon. Thomas enjoyed motorcycles, cars and trucks, building model cars, attending car shows and Suds Cruise In in Greensburg and he loved to street race.
Surviving with his wife Tina of 41 years; is his son, Ryan (Paige) Updike of North Vernon; his daughter, Chelsea (Joshua Cutsinger) Updike of Columbus; brothers, Darryl R. Updike and Jon Michael (Julie Totten) Updike, both of North Vernon; sister, Jo Ellen (Michael Reavis) Updike of North Vernon; mother-in-law, Fabian McCammon of North Vernon; and grandchildren, Adi Shinolt and Lynnix Cutsinger, both of Columbus, Gracyn Updike and Hadlie Updike, both of North Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mark N. Updike and father-in-law, William “Bill” McCammon.
A funeral for Thomas will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dan Corbin officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon.
