Thomas Edwin “Tom” Ramey Jr., 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:53 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born May 9, 1944, in Jennings County, he was the son of the late Thomas E. Ramey Sr and Grace Hilda (Jines) Ramey. He married Gladys June (Swinney) Kenens in 1982; she preceded him in death on July 18, 2012. He married Barbara Loveless on October 19, 2012, at his residence; she survives.

Tom was an ordained minister, farmer, and worked construction. He said, “You name it, I’ve done it”. Tom was a Jack of all Trades. Tom worked alongside his wife, June, and his daughter, Colleen, with their business, Tiny’s Fire Extinguisher. Tom, June, Colleen, and now his grandson, Steel, have helped Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home for several years pulling their horse-drawn hearse with their matched team of horses. He was an avid member of Queensville Community Church, Preacher on Wheels making house calls. He was the president and founder of the Country Outlaws Horse and Wagon Club, and the Indiana Trailriders. Tom enjoyed farming, horses, hunting, and fishing. He loved spending time with his family.  

Surviving with his wife, Barbara, are his sons, Daniel E. (Cristy) Ramey, and Dale Thomas (Melissa) Ramey, both of North Vernon; his daughter, Colleen Gabbard, of  North Vernon; step-son, Neil (Kasey) Smith, of North Vernon; step-daughter, Marsha (Tony) Maciel, of Texas and his first wife, Teresa Asher, of North Vernon; brothers, Raymond (Janet) Ramey and Rob (Deb) Ramey, both of North Vernon; sister, Kim (Bud) Steltenpohl, of Seymour; grandchildren, Steele Case, Amber (Logan) Bennett, and Justin Ramey, all of North Vernon, Jake (Kenny McGraw) Ramey, Kade Cook, and Myranda (Sean) Jennings, all of Indianapolis, and Brooke (David) Burton of Seymour; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Stanley L., and George Ramey; sister, Judy Scott; and several uncles and aunts.

A funeral service for Tom will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Brothers, Gerald Caudill, Keith Jenkins, and Robert Johnson officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in honor of Tom through the funeral home for expenses.
