Velma L. (Beard) Lunsford

Velma L. Lunsford, 82, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2020 at her daughter’s residence.

Born May 20, 1938 in Anderson, she was the daughter of Charles and Gladys (Smith) Beard. She married Melvin Lunsford on March 12, 1955 in Scottsburg; he preceded her in death on April 11, 1999.

Velma worked as a sports attendant and concession for the Jennings County School Corporation for 19 years and daycare and babysitting for 40 years. She was a member of Otter Creek Baptist Church. Velma enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and working word search puzzles.

Survivors include her sons, Greg (Linda) Lunsford and Jeff Lunsford, both of North Vernon and Mark (Terri) Lunsford of Columbus; daughters, Lisa (Matt) Elzea of Columbus and Leslie (Vince Holley) Wilson of North Vernon; sister, Dessie Wren of Palmetto, Florida; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and sisters, Ruth Lamb and Imogene Lamb.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Marvin Wright officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home in honor of Velma to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
