Velma Snodgrass Obituary

Velma Jane (Robertson) Snodgrass, devoted Jehovah’s Witness, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, at the age of 92 following a sudden decline in health.

Born September 13th, 1931, to Elwood and Ina Mae Robertson, Velma lived in Hershey, PA with her three siblings, Richard, Norma, and Marlene, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends nearby.

Velma was preceded in death by parents, Elwood and Ina Mae; sister, Norma Ramsey; brother, Richard Robertson; infant brother, Glen Robertson; and brothers-in-law, Richard Dowhower and John Ramsey.

Velma is survived by her daughter, Mary Flores; granddaughter, Cristina (Scott) Jenkins; great-grandsons, Tyler James, Nicholas (Kalynda Hoevener) James, and Cameron (Addison Napier) James; step great-grandchildren, Ryan Jenkins, Andrew (Kayla) Jenkins, Kyle Jenkins, and Rachel (Argenis) Disla; and great-great-grandchildren, Ellie Jenkins, Charli Jenkins, Jonas and Hazel Disla, and Kingston James; sister, Marlene Dowhower; sister-in-law, Florence Robertson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Velma graduated from Hershey High School in 1949 and shortly thereafter met John Snodgrass.  They were married in 1954 and welcomed their only daughter, Mary. Aside from volunteering at the Kingdom Hall, through door-to-door service, she worked a decades long career in nursing and served in the United States Navy. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, watching game shows such as The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune, and most of all spending time with her great-grandchildren and her beloved chihuahuas, Taco and Gizmo.

A memorial service will be held at the Seymour Indiana Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses at a future date. All are welcome to attend.
