Verna Jean (Robinson) Meek

Verna Jean Meek, 79, of Indianapolis, formerly of Scipio, passed away at 7:32 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020 at her residence.

Born September 1, 1940, in Vincennes, she was the daughter of Icil and Gladys (Wolford) Robinson. She married Ronnie W. Meek on September 6, 1958, in Lawrenceville, Illinois; he preceded her in death on June 10, 2015.

Verna was a 1958 graduate of North Knox High School in Bicknell, Indiana and worked as a bookkeeper for the former First National Bank in North Vernon for 20 years before retiring from there; she then went to work for Wal-Mart in Columbus as a cashier for 15 years before retiring. Verna enjoyed spending time with her family and being a caregiver to her family and friends.

Verna is survived by her daughter Julie Ann Acalotto of Indianapolis and son, Rodney (Anita) Meek of North Vernon; grandchildren, Amy Ault of Seymour, Kristina (Joe) Thompson of Indianapolis and Jennifer Meek of Morgantown; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother Marvin “Bud” Robinson and sisters, Thelma Marie Copelin and Doris Sue Kreuger.

A graveside service will be held in the Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Jennings County with Pat Engle officiating. Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service was entrusted with the care of these arrangements.

Memorials may be in honor of Verna through the funeral home to the Riley Children’s Health.
