Wanda Kay (Malloy) Wright

Wanda Kay Wright, 87, of Scipio, passed away at 7:46 a.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Born June 14, 1937, in Columbus, she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Deloris (Morrison) Malloy. She married John Lewis Wright on October 25, 1968, in Columbus; he preceded her in death on October 29, 1972.

Wanda was a 1955 graduate of Brownstown High School in Brownstown. She worked in accounting for Cummins Engine Company retiring in 1988, after 30 years, and worked for the Jennings County Historical Society, sold Avon, did bookkeeping for Classic Stain Glass and was a driver for Area Agency on Aging.  Wanda was a member of Jennings County Players and Scipio Presbyterian Church in Scipio where she served as a church treasurer, youth leader, choir director, and played the organ and sang, and a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Group of Indiana.  She was a former member of the Jennings Hospital Guild and a former Red Cross Board Member. Wanda enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports, acting and directing with the Jennings County Players and attending plays. She loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Scarlett Young of North Vernon; brother, Thomas (Marge) Malloy of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Adam (Kristy) Young of Scipio and Joshua Young of Seymour; great-grandchildren,  Jonathan (Brittany) Young of North Vernon, and Alaina Young and Chase Young, both of Scipio; great-great-grandchildren, Kendall Young, Emberlee Young, Mackenleigh Young and Kingston Young, all of North Vernon; step-great-great-grandchildren, Liam Cook and Skielynn Cook, both of North Vernon; and she was a host mother to Susanne from Switzerland who she kept in close contact with. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Sandra Pray and son-in-law, Don Wulf.  

A funeral service for Wanda will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Kendall Wildey officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the Scipio Cemetery in Scipio.

Memorials in honor of Wanda may be made through the funeral home to Scipio Volunteer Fire Department or the Jennings County Players.
