Wayne Maurice Mahan, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Majestic Care in North Vernon.
Born May 13, 1939, in Angola, he was the son of the late Jesse Miles and Harriet Rose (Powers) Mahan. He married Diana Ruth Stout on August 10, 1988, in Glenview, Illinois; she preceded him in death.
Wayne graduated from Ann Arbor High School in Ann Arbor Michigan and received his Bachelor’s degree in engineering at Indiana University – Purdue University in Fort Wayne. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until 1961. Wayne was a master mechanic; he worked at Auto Zone as parts sales manager, at KT Corp in Shelbyville, and as an airplane parts man. He was a member of Boy Scouts of America and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed photography, camping, hot rods, genealogy, computers, and antiquing.
He is survived by his sons, Daniel Ivan Mahan of Terre Haute, Tyler Lee Mahan of New York; and Jeffrey David Mahan of Brownstown; stepsons, Dallas Addison Rinker of Bloomington and David Allen (Kim) Rinker of North Vernon; brothers, William Edward Mahan of Arizona and Thomas Lee (Edna) Mahan of Dubuque, Iowa; grandchildren, Opal Dieters of Colorado and Brittany (Justin) Walters of North Vernon; several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Shaun Michael Mahan; and grandson, Dalton Rinker.
A funeral service with military honors for Wayne will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bloomington. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bloomington.
