Wayne Arthur Speer, 81, of Lexington, passed away at 10:05 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at the Sellersburg Healthcare Center.
Born August 18, 1938 in Milan, he was the son of the late William Otho and Emily Gertrude (Yeager) Speer. He married Janet Lou (Jordan) Speer on January 10, 1957, at Pilgrim Holiness Church in North Vernon; she survives.
Wayne was a lifelong farmer and worked for N.A.C. in North Vernon for eight years before retiring in 2000. He was a former member of the Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon and had been attending the Open Door Baptist Church in Deputy. He enjoyed farming, raising tobacco and farm animals, and watching Westerns.
He is survived by his wife; children, William Dale (Vicki) Speer of Salt Lake City, Utah, James John ( Brenda) Speer of Dupont, Arthur Lee (Patti) Speer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Douglas Allan (Willa) Speer of Elizabethtown, Theodore Wayne (Christine) Speer of Yelm, Washington, Annamaria Janene Stewart of Madison, Barry Morgan (Elizabeth) Speer of Madison, and Nicholas Eugene Speer of Georgetown, Kentucky; sister, Virginia Ann Brauer of Brownsburg; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren with three more on the way; and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers; one sister; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service for Wayne will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020 and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Wayne’s honor to the Open Door Baptist Church in Deputy through the funeral home.
