William Hatfield Obituary

William James Hatfield, 85, of Columbus, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope.

Born October 26, 1936, in Harrogate, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Kyle and Grace (Bolton) Hatfield. He married Mary Ann Sisson on October 3, 1957, in Greenfield; she preceded him in death on June 3, 2019.

Mr. Hatfield was a 1955 graduate of Greenfield High School in Greenfield and served in the National Guard. He worked for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 28 years before retiring. Mr. Hatfield was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Johnson, Tennessee and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his sons, Michael (Carolyn) Hatfield and James Hatfield, both of Seymour, William (Cindy) Hatfield of Florida, and George (Mary) Hatfield of Columbus; sisters, Martha Kidwell of Bargersville, Helen (John) Houston and Sally (Jack) Monroe, both of North Vernon, and Frances Carpenter of Alabama; grandchildren, Amber (Craig) Owens and Brittany Waterman, both of North Vernon, Dylan Hatfield, Ashley (Brett) Schultz and Abigail Hatfield, all of Seymour, and Josie (Woody) Young of Louisville, Kentucky; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Kyle Hatfield.

A funeral service for Mr. Hatfield will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Richard Burcham officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022, in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Waverly, Indiana.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
