William Mac Tungate Sr., 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Core of Dale Nursing and Rehabilitation in Dale.
Born June 10, 1945, In Marion, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Albert and Nannie (Wilkerson) Tungate.
William was a butcher for Stadler’s and Tandy’s IGA both in Columbus and worked the assembly line for Reliance Electric in Columbus. He was a member of ABATE, Coon Hunting Clubs, and Trap Shooting Clubs. He enjoyed baseball in his younger years, motorcycle riding, trap shooting, coon hunting, and attending a senior citizen group.
Survivors include his son, William Mac “Bill” (Betty) Tungate Jr. of Seymour; daughter, Kim (Bill) LaFollette of Butlerville; bonus daughter and favorite girlfriend, Lori Tungate of Seymour; brothers, Everett Tungate of Shirley and David Tungate of Westport; sisters, Wanell Mueller of Greensburg, Dorothy (Larry) Miller of Zenas, Dorene Elliott of North Vernon, Mary Jane (Mitchell) Smith of Westport, and Charlene Melton of Batesville; grandchildren, Jaime Patterson of North Vernon, Jennifer (Adam) Gunter of Versailles, Caleb (Lacey) LaFollette of Butlerville, Kaylena Tungate of Seymour, Charlie Tungate and Reba Johnson, both of Terre Haute, Jacob Ritchie of Florida, and Ashlee Tungate and Kylee Tungate of Seymour; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Tonia Johnson and Angela Tungate; brothers, Lee, Marvin, and Charles Tungate; sister, Betty Amburgey; and grandson, Dylan LaFollette.
In keeping with his and his family’s wishes, cremation is planned with no service to be held at this time. Arrangements were entrusted to Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon.
Memorials may be made in honor of William through the funeral home to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
