William Waltermire Obituary

William Laten “Jack” Waltermire, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 5:15 a.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born November 2, 1933, in Scipio, he was the son of the late Lloyd William and Leona Deline (Neal) Waltermire. He married Dorothy Mae Urish on February 14, 1979, in Pheonix, Arizona; she preceded him in death in 2008. He married Tina Tyler on September 18, 2010; she survives.

Jack was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War serving from 1950-1953. He worked as a supervisor for Phillips Company in Columbus and had previously worked sales for O’Reilly Auto Parts in Texas, from 1999-2003 and O’Reilly’s in North Vernon, a forklift driver for Arvin’s and Maintenance foreman for Golden Foundry, both in Columbus. He was a former member of Queensville Community Church in Queensville. Jack enjoyed dancing, fishing, bowling, racing cars, Harley Davidson’s, horseback riding and working on cars.

Surviving with his wife, Tina are his sons, Delbert (Michelle) Waltermire of Copperas Cove, Texas, J. Robert (Cynthia) Waltermire, Brian Tyler, Preston Tyler, all of Columbus, Allen (Michelle) Waltermire of Brownstown, and Rocky (Silisa) Tyler of Elizabethtown; daughters, Cynthia (Wayne) Purvis of Commiskey, Jody Nugent of Tennessee, Joanna (Tim) Hooten of Scipio and Shannon Clark of Columbus; brothers, Lloyd (Carolyn) Waltermire of North Vernon and Leonard (Vinetta) Waltermire of Iowa; sisters, Flora Jean Taylor of Scipio, Anna Marie Douglas of Columbus, Carolyn Kay (Donnie) Allman of Commiskey and Toni Dursi of Texas; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy; daughter, Billie Jo Moore; brothers, Robert, Kenneth Wayne, Allen Poe, James and Albert Waltermire, and Billy Ramey; sisters, Mary Lou Tuttle and Betty Wilder; and grandchildren, Kenneth and Michael Moore.

A funeral service for Jack will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with the Rev. Dale Boyd officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery with military graveside rites by members of Matt Hester Post #2021.

Memorials may be made in honor of Jack through the funeral home for expenses.
