William “Bill” Alan Miller, 70, of Vernon, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at 6:45 a.m.
Born May 1, 1952, in Lafayette, Indiana he was the son of the late William F. and Julia O. (Swan) Miller. He married Judith (Bentz) Miller on October 20, 1990, in Vernon.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judith Bentz-Miller of Vernon; his son, Alex Miller of Vernon; in-laws Jonathan (Linda) Bentz, David (Rebecca) Bentz and Sara Bentz all of North Vernon; Elizabeth (Larry) Williams of Indianapolis; six nieces and nephews; 12 great nieces and nephews; and five great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Anna-Lee Olivia Miller; sister, Margaret Miller; an infant brother; nephew Steven Edward Williams and God daughter Tara K. Sharp.
Bill graduated from high school and held two bachelor’s degrees, one in business and one in sociology. He worked for the State of Indiana in the Child Protective Services and the Medicaid Department under the Division of Family Services; was a co-owner of Lilacs and Lullabies Daycare in Vernon where he was affectionately known as Uncle Bill; ran flea markets in Friendship; was a bouncer at The Stabilizer; was a night janitor at the infamous Stanley Hotel in Colorado and was a stagehand at Purdue Elliot Hall of Music. Bill volunteered for the Feast of the Hunters Moon in Lafayette amongst other organizations such as the crisis center and the homeless shelter of Lafayette. He was a member and former Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge in Buckcreek in addition to being a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, National Rifle Association, and the Vernon Baptist Church. Bill was very crafty and enjoyed making his own guns, knives, powder horns, dye, paper, quilting, and quilling. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and enjoyed riding bicycles, partaking in the Hilly Hundred Bike Race in Bloomington, riding his mountain bike in Yosemite Park, camping in Colorado, blue grass music, dogs and playing the banjo.
A memorial service for Bill will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
