William Earl “Fuzz” Smith, 73, of Elizabethtown, passed away at 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends at his residence.
Born January 21, 1953, in Union Hill, Tennessee, he was the son of the late William Martin and Vesta B. (Price) Smith. He married Linda Sue Leonard on June 30, 1972, at Love Chapel in Columbus; she survives.
Fuzz worked as a Dredge and Heavy Equipment Operator for Shelby Materials in Edinburgh and had worked for Golden Foundry in Columbus. He was a member of the East Columbus Christian Church and a 30-years member of Hope Community Church of God. Fuzz enjoyed playing music, Razr riding, being outdoors, fishing, mushroom hunting, and spending time with is family. “He was the most gentle man and loved everyone.”
Surviving with his wife of 53-years, Linda Sue, is his son, Jason “Will” (Adria “Adie”) Smith of Elizabethtown; brother, Elbert Ronald “Ronnie” Smith of Pricetown, Tennessee; sisters, Jewel Dean (Carlie Cross Jr.) Cross of Elizabethtown and Dorthean Goodwin of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Zion Seth (Kim) Napier of Scipio, Calib Wayde Smith of North Vernon, Martin Cody (Rebekah) Smith of Elizabethtown; and William Garret Smith, of North Vernon, great-grandchildren, Abigail Ann “Abby” Napier and Adam Willard “Doodle Pop” Napier, both of Scipio, Macy Lynn ”Spunky” Smith of Elizabethtown and Baby Boy Smith coming in July; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hubert Donald “Don” Smith; and sisters, Sybil “Toots” Green, Wanda Jean “Bug” Lockett, Bonell Biles, and Kathyrin “Katie” Birdwell.
A funeral service for Fuzz will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon with Rev. Gerald Hancock officiating. The visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Scipio.
Memorials may be made in honor of Fuzz through the funeral home for funeral expenses.
