Wilma Lou (Milnes) Thomas

Wilma Lou Thomas, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:32 a.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

Born June 9, 1941, in Columbus, she was the daughter of Darrel Milnes Sr. and Mary Florence (Snyder) Milnes.  She married Lynn Edward Thomas on June 26, 1960, in Columbus; he preceded her in death on December 17, 2018.

Wilma was a high school graduate and a graduate of nursing college. She worked as a Psychiatric Nurse for Columbus Regional Hospital and had worked as a clerk for Smoker Friendly retiring after ten years. Wilma was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing piano, swimming, playing tennis, reading books especially the Bible, and camping. Wilma was a people person who loved spending time with her great-grandkids and Chinese food.

Survivors include her son, Ethan (Mary) Thomas of Pasadena, Maryland and Phil (Shannon) Thomas of North Vernon; her daughter, Tammy Thomas Burke of North Vernon; grandchildren, Chad (Sarah) Thomas, Jeff Burke, and Shae Thomas all of North Vernon, Brandon (Morgan) Thomas of Pasadena, Maryland, Jason Thomas of Kansas, Ashley (Tim) Hook of Jacksonville, Florida, Todd (Ashley) Thomas of Middleburg, Florida and Heather Cordero of Florida; twenty great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Keith Thomas; brother, Darrel (Barb) Milnes Jr; and sisters, Norma (Bud) Guinn and Doris (Herb) Tietjen.

The visitation for Wilma will be 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon, with a closing prayer at 3:00 p.m. Entombment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood.

Memorials for Wilma may be made through the funeral home to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
