Zebedee Ritchie Jr., 81, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:40 p.m. on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at his residence.
Born April 30, 1940, in Knott County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Zebedee Ritchie Sr. and Columbia (Wooten) Ritchie. He married Barbara S. Collins on August 30, 1958, in North Vernon; she survives.
Zebedee retired from Martinrea in North Vernon in September of 2007 where he had worked for 35 years. He had previously worked for Golden Foundry in Columbus for four years before going to Martinrea. Zebedee was a member of Chestnut Street Community Church and a former member of North Vernon Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed listening to music, hunting, woodworking. He was a mechanic and handyman. Zebedee loved spending time with his family.
Surviving with his wife, Barbara; are his sons, Gary Lee (Kimberly) Ritchie of Columbus, John David Ritchie of Muncie and Darren Keith (Shelly) Ritchie of Vernon; his daughters, Catherin Ann Ritchie, Melinda Kay (Mark) Kuntz and Tanya Renee Kuntz, all of North Vernon; brother, Jimmie Ritchie of North Vernon; sisters, Geneva Young of Commiskey, and Rosa Lee (Carroll) New of North Vernon; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Peggy Sue Ritchie; and brothers, Chester Leo and Cecil Ritchie.
A funeral service for Zebedee will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will follow in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in honor of Zebedee through the funeral home to Donor’s Choice of Charity.
