John David Ramey

John David Ramey, 77, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017, at his residence.

Born February 19, 1940 in Seymour; the son of the late Nimrod and Mary Brooks Ramey. He married Theresa Kelly on August 27, 1977 at Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana. She survives.

Mr. Ramey was a 1958 graduate of North Vernon High School and served as a Lieutenant in the Indiana National Guard.  He retired in 1996 as a foreman from Cummins Engine Company in Columbus where he had worked for 38 years. Mr. Ramey was a former Shriner and enjoyed high school basketball and football and was a referee for many years.

Surviving with his wife, Theresa Ramey; are sons, Barry St. John and Danny (Dawn) St John both of Jasonville; daughters, Jonette Vagts of Maryland, Victoria Collins of Terre Haute, Cindy (Kurt) Bilyea of Seymour, Kelly St. John of Jasonville, Michelle McCrory of North Vernon and Kimberly (Dennis) Tyger of Greensburg; sister, Beverly Colgate of Indianapolis; twenty four grandchildren; thirty seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nimrod Ramey.

A funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with the Rev. Jon Porter officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until time of service. A rosary service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
