Polly Sue (Elrod) Purkhiser at the age of 90 passed away peacefully and without pain at 5:51 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2017, at her Masonic Home Residence in Franklin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon with Charles Stanley officiating. Family and Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, October 16, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service. Private Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Polly was a 1945 graduate of North Vernon High School and a homemaker. Polly worked for the North Vernon License Branch and was former Red Hat Lady.

Our Mother, Granny, Granny Annie, Aunt Polly, cousin and friend will always be remembered for her loving attention, hugs, and delicious baking of pies. In addition to her many skills she gave great attentive detail to sewing and knitting plus she thoroughly enjoyed a cross word puzzle. She was a gifted caring and loving person who made friends wherever she was present. She looked forward to spending time with family at holidays and especially looked forward each year to the Christmas season.

Polly was born May 26, 1927 in Martinsburg and was the daughter of Roy and Mary (Hale) Elrod. On May 19, 1946, she married James C. Purkhiser Jr. and he preceded her in death January 18, 2011. She is also preceded in death by her loving daughter, Mary Kay (Purkhiser) Lincoln, July 26, 1999; her parents and her siblings sister, Jane (Elrod) Caudill and brother, John Elrod.

Survivors include sons, Paul Purkhiser of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Thomas Purkhiser (wife Karen) of Mooresville; son in law, Richard Lincoln of Glenwood, Iowa; grandchildren, Kelly Hopp (husband Clark) and Jeff Lincoln (wife Amy) both of Anchorage, Alaska, Kristen Burdette (husband Mark) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tara Thornburgh (husband Mitch) of Danvers, Massachusetts, and Kim Charie (husband Steven) of Kirkland, Washington; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Indiana Masonic Home Foundation through the funeral home .
