Wesley “Jack” Combest, 92, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Premier Healthcare Center in North Vernon.

Born December 28, 1924, in Russell Springs, Kentucky, the son of Lawrence and Eliza Coffee Combest. He married Florence Hartwell on May 14, 1955 in Vernon; she survives.

Mr. Combest worked for the Golden Foundry in Columbus for 28 years before retiring in 1987; he had also hauled glass for Arvin’s and hauled water for people’s wells. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946. Mr. Combest enjoyed farming, junking, collecting aluminum cans, cutting firewood and visiting with friends.

Mr. Combest is survived by his sons, Wesley (Jamie) Combest of Seymour, Leslie (Robin) Combest of North Vernon and Jackie Combest of Shelbyville; brother, Eugene Combest of North Vernon; grandchildren, Audry and Tiffany Combest of Seymour, Sandra Combest of North Vernon and Shannon (Jacki) Jones of Columbus and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Eva Rae Taulman, grandson, Devan Combest, brothers, Joe, Samuel and Louis Combest and sisters, Betty Lou Combest, Magaline Holt, Virginia Smallwood and Marybelle Young.

A funeral service for Mr. Combest will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon. Family and Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Friday, December 15, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon with military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
